Definition of Social Realism

As our film trailer is that of a Social Realism it is important to closely examine the definition of the genre so as to gain a better understanding of what we are aiming to portray through all three tasks in our promotional package consisting of our film trailer, film poster and our magazine cover. The definition of a Social Realism film is as follows:

"Social Realism, an international art movement, refers to the work of painters, printmakers, photographers and filmmakers who draw attention to the everyday conditions of the working classes and the poor, and who are critical of the social structures that maintain these conditions. While the movement's artistic styles vary from nation to nation, it almost always utilizes a form of descriptive or critical realism."

From the above definition it is clear to see that the aim of a Social Realism film is to represent the working class of society and the media of film and photography is but one way of accomplishing this. To establish our promotional package within the genre of Social Realism, we will aim to present our characters in a gritty manner to effectively represent the brutality of living under harsh financial constraints characters within the genre often find themselves in. I personally feel that the working class are often largely go without fair representation and a voice in the media so I feel that through our promotional package, although representing fictional characters in a realistic situation, I am hoping that were our film to be made for real, one of the Unique Selling Points of the production would be a rare occurrence of such a film production becoming available and as such I am hoping this breakaway from conventional cinematic screenings of typically well presented genres such as the Action genre, would encourage viewers to embrace variety and experience a new type of cinematic experience, perhaps not one fully experienced before.
I am hoping that through our promotional package of our Social Realism film we are able to give a balanced and exciting representation of  one of society's problems of recreational drug use and the dangers associated with it, in a positive and constructive way.
