Character Profiles

For our characters to be as realistic as possible, we thought it a good idea to equip them with realistic back stories and histories that would not only make them more believable to the audience, it also aids the story in being more believable and it additionally gives our actors the added benefit of having some of the groundwork of the performance having already been completed for them prior to giving their performance.

For the character of Toby Scott, our central protagonist and the person around which our story revolves, we wanted to present the character as a naive, passive  recreational drugs user. We decided to make the Central Protagonist one of Social Awkwardness this was due to the fact that this is not something that has been explored particularly in the area of film. We wanted to present the character as isolated, regressive and timid to shed light on more vulnerable members of society and how it is these people that fall prey to drug abuse.  As he is the central protagonist for our piece  we wanted him to be easily relate to our target audience of those over the 16 year old age bracket as it is most likely adolescents of this age category that have had most exposure to drugs, and the harmful effects caused by them.

In direct and noticeable contrast to Toby, we wished to present the antagonist of our trailer Creegan and new antagonist Vincent as polar opposites to Toby as vindictive, capricious, calculating, volatile,  and unpredictable we felt these attributes would cause our film  to conform to a common convention seen amongst most films, of having sets of characters that are binary opposites to one another.

All three of our main characters have grown up in exposure to drugs throughout the period of their adolescence that has gradually devolved into consuming their adult lives, growing from a casual social pastime and slowly developing into a full scale dependency upon which they thrive "just to survive."
